My husband asked me to order these. I thought for sure they’d be cheesy…likely a return. I mean, fake fire? How dumb. Either install gas lamps or just use lightbulbs, right?

While I agree with many of the reviews that conclude the flame does not look perfectly real (e.g. it could have more variation in its flickering appearance, it could flicker a little slower, etc.), it is a pretty good bulb. Keep in mind that no light bulb is going to perfectly mimic a flame effect, and in order for the bulb to not cost 10x what it does (i.e. it doesn’t contain a supercomputer to create a perfect random variation flame effect), you should expect some limitation in how “real” it looks. When used as an imitation “gas light” in a front yard lamp post (which is what I am doing), the effect is very good. The brightness and color are excellent (although it is somewhat more orange than you might expect). The bulb seems to be high quality, and it has worked well for me in the little over a month that it has been in use.
